Suggestions for hemorrhoids?

I’ve had a mild case of external hemorrhoids for about 2 years now. I’ve used Preparation H and had little trouble. Lately it seems like the cream doesn’t help, as I’ve had swelling and pain. Any suggestions?

Hi Jeremiah,
Mild cases of hemorrhoids you can successfully treat at home:
-don’t wipe after going to the toilet, but use a bidet or simply clean yourself using the shower
-if you feel that only wiping is the clean way to go, then use soft toilet paper that you wet a bit. In stead of wiping, only blot the anus. Baby wipes or other pre-moistened towels are practical for this.
-rest in bed , if possible on your stomach, to take away the pressure on your hemorrhoids. A nap can do miracles. Avoid sitting or standing too long in the same position
-wear cotton underwear and loose clothes.
Hope that helps, Jeremiah, for more details ask again please.
Ask your doctor to prescribe Rx strength cream. It works better than OTC cream. Stool softeners also might reduce aggravation. And, be gentle when you wipe.
When nothing else helps, and you’re miserable enough, surgery is the final option.
