Healing hemorrhoids really does change your life Alex. I suffered for years which all started when I was pregnant. Like you I had flares of pain and symptoms. I used the creams and they help to make me feel better but in the end you just know that the pain and bleeding would return.
I search for answers like you are now and I stumbled upon an article in Wikipedia. If you look at the home treatment section you will see that there is something called combination home treatment. To heal hemorrhoids it is better to combine the effects of multiple treatments.
They suggested to visit this site: http://www.healinghemorrhoidsinfo.com
Its run by a women called Emma Marston that was cured after 20 years of fighting hemorrhoids. She gives information of cures and treatments and symptoms. Its a lot easier to read then the Wikipedia medical stuff at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemorrhoid#Home_treatments
If you visit her articles on getting started today:

She details these steps to helping yourself while your searching for the healing cure that works for you.
1. We need to always keep our diets rich in fiber so that we can minimize impact.
2. Drinking water everyday and throughout the day.
3. Use the squatting position, always.
4. Use natural supplements such as Horse-chestnut, Butchers Broom, Bioflavonoids and Hem-eez sparingly but often.
5. Use Ruscus aculeatus to strengthen the veins and Echinacea for reduce infection risk.
6. Take warm baths after every attack.
7. Only use glycerin soaps which do not contain perfumes or coloring agents.
Go bless and I wish you luck in your search.
More fibre in your diet and stool softeners.
Soak in hot water, a hot sits bath, then wash real good down there. Now use the preparation H ointment not the cream. In the evening before bedtime wash real good again and use the ointment and use the prep suppositories before bedtime.
Always keep yourself clean. Don’t eat pop-corn, peanuts food like this that create roughage and do not digest real good. Stay away from spices like pepper.
Don’t allow yourself to get constipated. If and when it gets real bad and you have a lot of bleeding then see and doctor about surgery, that’s the last resort.
Preparation H will help you at first, but then it stops helping for some reason. I had the same experience.
Keep a high fiber diet, drink a lot of water to have a softer stool, and do not sit on the toilet for more than 30 seconds (if you don’t feel a bowel movement coming in under 30 seconds of sitting down, get up and wait for it to come at a later time. Do not let yourself get constipated). If you are having trouble sitting down, use a donut shaped pillow to sit on top of and it should ease the pain. Sitting in a warm bath will also help, but only temporarily.
I was recommended to a Colo-rectal doctor who prescribed me a compound ointment of Nitroglycerin and wht Petrolatum. I apply it twice daily and it has helped me tremendously. My next step would have been to get the actual tissue banded, but it was not necessary because the compound has helped diminish the severe hemorrhoids that I had. I would suggest going to the chemist if you have severe hemorrhoids, nothing at the store will be able to help you as well as a good prescription. If the prescription doesn’t help, the next step is getting the tissue banded, which is quick and nearly pain free. The tissue is tied with a tiny band that cuts off all the circulation in the tissue, the tissue will then die and fall off in a bowel movement within a week or two and it usually goes unnoticed. Surgery is saved for only the worst cases out there, and is very rare in the removal of hemorrhoids. Hope this helps!
i dont think preparation H works that good.
you should increase the fiber content in your diet and should take a lot of water.try using warm water bath it might help you,but remember it is temporary.
