blood after a Bowel Movement…i'm worried! Please Help?
so, i’m not sure if this is my hemorrhoids r something serious. i just had a bowel movement and when i wiped i had bright red blood on the toilet paper on…there was none in the actual stool. i took at mirror to look at my buttocks and it seems as if my external hemorrhoids are enlarged and one sorts of hurts a lot and stings. i’m not sure if i strained or tore something down there. what do you think it could be…i don’t want it to be cancer ;-/
p.s. i have had hemorrhoid problems before where they got irritated and enlarged and hurt to sit. so, i’m not sure if this is the same thing.

Don’t worry. The blood is just from a hemorrhoid or an anal fissure which can happen very frequently. The bright red blood on the toilet paper and the fact that there was no blood inside the stool pretty much ensures that it’s nothing more. You don’t have cancer! Witch hazel pads are a good treatment and you can also take a gloved finger and try to push the hemorrhoid back into your anus. To help with the soreness try to sit in a tepid bath at least once a day.
Yes it is your Hemorrhoids. When they get irritated they tend to bleed. If the blood was very dark, then I would be more worried.
Most likely it was a combination of straining too hard and a hard stool. I would recommend you try adding a small amount or Miralax to your Coffee or Juice every morning. I would not even add a full dose. Just half of a dose. It will help pull more liquids into you stool’s to make them softer. That would make the stools softer and easier to pass. There are also several creams and pads that can help take the sting from your Hemorrhoids.
Good Luck.
Bright red blood is typically indicative of bleeding in the lower GI tract and is consistent with blood loss from damaged internal hemorrhoidal tissue. It could also be from an anal fissure, also not inherently dangerous. External hemorrhoids can bleed if they are inflamed enough and have experienced enough surface damage. Of course there are many other issues that could trigger the bleeding and only a proper exam by a physician can determine the source.
Your concern about colorectal cancer is the chief reason that people recommend that the first time you experience bleeding you should be checked out. My view of it is peace of mind is far more important than guessing it’s not and then staying worried every time you experience more bleeding.
External hemorrhoids form from weakened vein walls. These veins exist at the anal verge (the area surrounding the anus, both just inside and outside the anus) and they make a sharp turn in direction there. For reasons not fully understood by researchers, in a percentage of the population, these veins form hemorrhoids. Poor vascular health can contribute to this. Sustained intra-abdominal pressure, or sudden increased pressure can also cause or worsen existing external hemorrhoids. For this reason you should avoid lifting heavy objects, straining during bowel movements or sitting on the toilet for extended periods (longer than 5 minutes at a time).
As you are aware, the issue is chronic in nature. There are many steps you can take to reduce or eliminate them. These generally involve identifying what habits you have that may be contributing to them and altering those habits. Using therapeutic hot and cold sitz baths can also help as well as the use of over-the-counter medications which will help temporarily with symptom relief by reducing pain and swelling.
Good luck.
Yes, bright red blood is coming from your external hemmeroids. It can also come from Internal Hemmeroids. My husband used to paint the toilet bowl red for 35 years before seeking help, his diagnosis: Hemmeroids. You have nothing to worry about, but to increase the fiber 10 fold in your diet.
