   Prevent further damage on his external anal sphincter by:
   *avoiding constipation (eat fiber rich foods such as oat meal, drink extra fluid such as water and prune juice)
   *avoid foods that may cause constipation
   *avoid straining during defecation and avoiding too much friction during washing of the area
   *sit on a doughnut-shaped cushion to avoid direct pressure on the anus

   Provide temporary relieve by:
   *sitting on a warm water (steam)
   *or apply ice
   *too much pain- can take mild analgesics but non opioids because it causes constipation

   if it is too painful and damaged, the doctor may suggest an operation, hemorrhoidectomy. it is a short procedure done in an OPD or in a minor surgery suit. the patient may go home afterwards. god bless.

   Personally. I would have it removed. Especially if it’s causing any discomfort. If it’s not too bad and it’s external, I believe the doctor can remove it right in the office.

   For an external hemorrhoid, if it has formed a blood clot, the MD can make a simple incision for immediate relief.
   The MD might also suggest OTC ointments or creams with hydrocortisone to shrink the hemorrhoid & stop itching & pain.
   Put ice or cold compresses on it.
   Take warm sitz baths.
   Don’t use dry toilet paper, use something like Tucks witch hazel pads instead.
   Keep anal area clean with warm water (no soap).

   To prevent hemorrhoids: Add fiber to your diet; drink plenty of water; don’t strain; exercise; go when you feel urge.

   Hey,
   It’s most likely that your doctor will suggest a topical cream or lotion which will be applied to the hemorrhoid initially. These creams are generally not overly expensive and can be purchased through most drug stores/pharmacy’s. Unless the hemorrhoid is very advanced and causes severe pain, no one should be considering surgery just yet.
   Be wary if you do decide to use a cream as they generally only mask the hemorrhoid (cure the symptoms) and the hemorrhoid often returns at a later date (maybe 1 month later or 6 months later).
